South Bass Island is known to many anglers as the walleye Capital of the World. For more information on Western Basin fishing reports, fishing guides, and fishing gear you can look online or ask the Wharfside. Boat ramps are located at the South Bass Island State Park as well as downtown Put-in-Bay. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources patrols the great Lake Erie Islands in tandem with the U.S. Coast Guard and is just as likely to stop you near PIB as they would be in Sandusky, Port Clinton, or Cleveland, if not even more so.

You may have come for the Walleye fishing but you can also expect to catch Smallmouth Bass and Lake Erie Yellow Perch as well. For Put-in-Bay lodging we recommend the Island Club and Bird’s Nest Resort home rentals as they both cater well to fisherman. Island Club also has golf cart rentals. The two most popular times for fishing are at the beginnig and end of the tourist season. Put-in-Bay hosts fisherman typically during the spring and fall months. That is also when the Lake Erie fishing conditions are best.

Where can I park my boat?

The Island Club Rental Homes come with a spacious driveway that is able to fit your truck and boat trailer. If you need additional parking you can park on the side of the street.

Where are the boat ramps located?

There are two boat ramps located on Put-in-Bay Island. The most commonly used one can be found at the South Bass Island State Park. Meanwhile, the other boat ramp is located next to Jet Express dock in the downtown Put-in-Bay Harbor.
