Fishing Around Put-in-Bay

Despite the island chain being called the Bass Islands, Bass is not the fish you will encounter most frequently. That would be the Lake Erie Walleye. In fact, the area has earned its nickname, The Walleye Capital of the World! There is plenty of Bass around as well, particularly Smallmouth Bass. That name did not come from nowhere after all. Some of the other fish you may land are rock bass, crappie, catfish, and perch. Perch features many menus at different restaurants and bars on Put-in-Bay Island.

Check out Put-in-Bay Charter Fishing Service’s website here. There you can find their Lake Erie fishing charters prices. If you can’t find the answer to your question there, give them a call at (419) 341-2805. Both Captains are Put-in-Bay residents, so they stand prepared to answer any of your questions about their offerings and the fishing up at the Bay!

Testimonials

Brant B: “My brother, myself, and our 3 combined sons had an experience we won’t ever forget. When we do it again, we will definitely call Bruce to set it up. Excellent communication leading up to the trip and through delivering our cleaned Walleye. Very organized and good boat and equipment. Steve is the best charter boat captain I’ve had whether at Lake Erie, Gulf of Mexico, or off the Atlantic coast. Very knowledgeable, helpful, patient, and just fun to work with.”

Brianna R: “Just got back from Put-in-Bay and took two half days with Captain Steve, was hands down the best time of the whole trip! Steve knew exactly where we needed to be because we hit our limit on both trips. We are an easy-going group and we have fished Lake Erie many times with different charters, but we will be working with Captain Bruce & Steve again for our next trip. Thanks again for making it a memorable experience!”

Mitchell S: “The only fishing charter I’ll ever use in Put In Bay! My family and I go to Put-in-Bay at least once a year for vacation. I bought my father our first fishing charter for Christmas this past year. I scheduled it with Captain Bruce in November, and he kept in touch with me throughout the next several months until we went on the trip in April. Had some bad weather that day, but Bruce kept us safe and let us go out once the conditions were right. Once we got started fishing, one of my brothers got seasick. They were EXTREMELY accommodating, letting us drop him off at shore and they took us back out. Since we spent so much of the day sailing around to accommodate the sick brother, they cut the price down for us! We had a great time and can’t wait to do it again with them. Thanks, Bruce and Steve!! From Mitch and the guys.”

Exploring the Island

There are many ways to start exploring the great Put-in-Bay attractions here on South Bass Island. You can take the tour train that starts their expedition at the Miller Ferry drop-off. The tour train will take you to all of the most important spots on the island including Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial so you can learn about the War of 1812 and the Battle of Lake Erie. You’ll also be able to see downtown Put-in-Bay, some Put-in-Bay wineries and grape fields, South Bass Island State Park, The Chocolate Museum, Derivera Park and so much more!

They often also have live reenactments right in the grass outside of the monument. One of the best Put-in-Bay family-friendly activities on the island is Perry’s Cave and Family Fun Center. Choose from a variety of kid-friendly activities at the Family Fun Center like mini-golf, gem mining, the Butterfly House, a rock climbing wall and more!
