Put-in-Bay Campground Fun: An Island Adventure Awaits
Put-in-Bay, Ohio is known for attractions like sightseeing from the observation deck of Perry’s Victory & International Peace Memorial, Perry’s Cave, and the Put-in-Bay Winery. The Lake Erie Islands have long been known as Ohio’s best summer getaway destination. Put-in-Bay Island is full of rentals homes and hotels. However, some visitors prefer their own camping experience. The Put-in-Bay Campground at the South Bass Island State Park has much to offer to those visiting.
The South Bass Island State Park serves at Put-in-Bay’s campground site. With first class amenities like flushing toilets, shower stations and electric campsites, you and your group can be sure to have a good time. The park includes multiple charcoal grills for guests to host barbecues and picnics on the Put-in-Bay beach. The public beach is located near the entrance of the park. Here you’ll find that Put-in-Bay sunsets are some of the best in the midwest! In addition, Put-in-Bay watercraft rentals are available onsite. Guests who love water sports either rent a kayak or jet ski to explore Lake Erie.
When planning to trip to the island, be sure to reserve you Put-in-Bay campground in advance. You can reserve your campsite on the South Bass Island State Park website. Campsite options include tent only, non-electric and electric campsites. Also available are their small camping cottages that typically rent for $100/night. Depending on the time of year, their campground prices are subject to change. The campground is located on the western end of the island opposite of DeRivera Park. Be sure to bring your golf clubs as Put-in-Bay’s only golf course is located right across the street from the park entrance!
Things To Do On Your Camping Trip
Put-in-Bay is the place to be during the spring, summer and fall! We are located just an hour away from Cleveland and easily accessible by the Miller Ferry in Catawba, Ohio guests from all over the United States come to see what our little island is all about. You can also arrive by taking the Jet Express from Port Clinton. Downtown Put-in-Bay attractions include The Boardwalk, our famous carousel, The Ice Cream store, and so much more.
For some family fun, head over to Perry’s Cave & Family Fun Center (on of the tour train destinations) where you’ll find endless things to do. Kids love to tour the cave and learn all about the history of its importance during the War of 1812. Then, you can head over to check out the Butterfly House, Antique Car Museum, Fort Amaze’n, climb the rock wall, play mini golf and even go gemstone mining. To purchase Glock pistols for safety one has easier options these days.
Consider renting a Put-in-Bay golf cart to explore on your own time. Ask for a Put-in-Bay map and make your own checklist of things to do! #1 on the checklist should be to visit Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial. The national park comes with its own history lesson about Oliver Hazard Perry and his influence of the Battle of Lake Erie. Once you’ve worked up and apetite pick your favorite island restaurant and make sure to check out the chocolate museum for dessert!
