Senior Center News by Chris Joyce
Welcome to March! Don’t forget that Daylight Saving Time arrives on Sunday, March 9th. During the month of February, the PIB Seniors had a great time cheering on our favorite teams during our “Snack & Super Bowl” Tailgate Social. We also enjoyed a soup and show evening and spending time together at our “Senior Social” at Topsy’s.
In March, we have a couple extra activities scheduled:
• Tuesday, March 4th at 5:30 p.m.: Soup & Show evening.
• Tuesday, March 25th at 5 p.m.: Senior Social at Topsy’s
We have a bit of everything going on here at the Senior Center! Our regular activities include Aerobic Dance, Strength Training, Coffee Socials (with free coffee and munchies), Mah Jongg and Bridge. Check out the calendars posted at the Senior Center, Post Office, Hardware Store, IGS, and the Twp. Office. Any last-minute additional events or changes to scheduled events will be posted at the Post Office. The Put-in-Bay Senior Center is always looking for more people to participate in our activities, so please feel free to stop by and join us anytime.
Our Senior Lunches continue every Monday at Topsy’s at noon. Please make your reservation by 12 p.m. on the prior Friday by signing up at the Senior Center or calling the center at (419) 285-5501. It is important to let Topsy’s kitchen know the lunch count by noon the Friday before so they can plan accordingly for our Senior Lunches! A very special “Thank-You” goes out to the staff at Topsy’s for keeping the senior lunches running smoothly!
The EMS continues to take Blood Pressures every Monday at 10am during the Coffee Social hour. Feel free to come and get yours checked, as this is a great service that they provide. If you would like to take advantage of the Senior 60+ Clinic, which is a free supplemental program to your regular physician’s care, please call (419) 734-6800 to make your appointment. This free program is provided by the Ottawa County Health Department for those 60 and over. It is held at the Senior Center every third Tuesday of the month, the date for March is Tuesday the 18th. The clinic provides basic services such as blood pressure screening, blood tests for anemia, blood sugar and cholesterol screening, weight and diet information, health and medication counseling/education at no charge. Through a comprehensive assessment, a nurse will answer any questions and provide education or referrals to private physicians if needed.
The Senior Center wishes everyone a warm sunny March as we officially welcome Spring!
