School News
By Steve Poe, Superintendent
Coach Schuffenecker and the volleyball team had their first game on August 24th and have a number of games scheduled for September. Please check our school website for an update on game’s dates and times.
Coach Danes and the cross-country runners have been putting in a lot of miles, not just on South Bass Island, but with practices on Middle Bass and Kelley’s Island. Come cheer on our runners when they compete at the annual Miller Boat Line 5K on Saturday, September 18th.
The School’s Attendance/Vacation Policy has not changed. Absences due to illness, appointments, or reasons pre-approved by the Superintendent will be ‘excused.’ All other absences will be ‘unexcused,’ resulting in failing grades on schoolwork missed. Parents are advised to make appointments and plan vacations on the following dates that school will not be in session:
- September 4 – 6 (Labor Day)
- October 16 – 18 (Appointment Day)
- November 24 – 28 (Thanksgiving)
- December 3 – 5 (Island Tournament Weekend)
- Dec. 18 – Jan. 2 (Christmas Break)
- February 18 – 27 (Winter Break)
- April 15 – 19 (Spring Break)
We’re happy to have students back in the building again on August 30th. We would like parents to adhere to the following guidelines when dropping off and/or picking up their children:
- No parking/waiting on the sidewalk (ball field side of Concord).
- No parking behind the cars in the parking lot.
- No parking across the street on Catawba (heading to State Park).
All drop-offs and pick-ups will take place along Catawba Ave. heading into town. For students walking or riding their bikes to school, the corner of Concord and Catawba will be monitored by crossing guards, school faculty and/or local police to ensure a safe crossing.
