During the winter months when the lake is frozen, people hoping to come to the island take to the skies. Put-in-Bay Airport is the way that mail and freight get to the island when the boats aren’t running. There’s also a ton going on here during the summer. Put-in-Bay Biplane Rides and Put-in-Bay Helicopter Rides are based here. When Toby Keith came to perform on the island last year, the concert was at the Put-in-Bay Airport. Rascal Flatts will be coming to the island in 2018, and they’ll be playing here as well.
Also, if you’re flying into Put-in-Bay, you’ll be landing here. And once you do, you’ll have to get where you’re going. For that, call the Island Club Taxi, the best taxi service Put-in-Bay has to offer. They’ll get you anywhere on the island for $3 per person. They are available 24 hours a day, and their staff of fun, knowledgeable drivers can direct you towards the best bars and restaurants if you need a tip!
And if you haven’t decided where you’re staying just yet, consider the Put-in-Bay Poolview Condos. They are located right next to the airport for your convenience. You’ll love these accommodations, with access to an awesome pool and a beautiful outdoor patio with multiple grills. There’s also full kitchens and laundry in every condo.
If you’ve never been to Put-in-Bay in the off-season, you can’t even imagine how important the airport is to the island. It is absolutely critical for the residents in the winter when the ferries stop running. It becomes the only way to get goods and people to and from Put-in-Bay.
You’re likely to pass by the airport at some point during your stay on the island, even if your plans don’t bring you here. But maybe you’ll get to see a takeoff or landing as a great bonus to your stay!
Testimonials: Put-in-Bay Airport
Adam S: “Flew in a few weeks ago and couldn’t be happier. The runway is in great shape and the people running the golf cart rental were very helpful. Flying into Put-In-Bay is the way to do it in style! See you guys next year.”
M.O.K: “Perfect approach together with a former Navy pilot…thanks Steve! Good place to spend some time and there is a bus station next to the Airport!”
Shibley: “If you would like to not crash land your aircraft on the island, then this is the only place for you. They also offer helicopter and stunt plane rides.”
