Middle Bass Music Festival Grants!
By Colleen Kerkay
We are deeply grateful to our incredible sponsors for making the 2025 Music Fest possible! This year, we are honored to receive generous grants from both Shores & Islands Ohio and The Ohio Arts Council. Their support enables us to bring exceptional musicians and artists to Middle Bass Island, celebrate the vital work of the Lake Erie Islands Conservancy, and ensure that everyone can experience the festival—without admission fees.
We are also grateful for the continued support of the Middle Bass Dock Company as well as additional sponsors this year of Miller Boat Line, Dark Side-Scott Smith, Excel Carpet Cleaners, LuLaRoe-Shannon McDonald, Russ and Lisa Brohl, and The Island Grind.
North Bass
It Takes A Lot Of Hard Work!
Once again in the summer of 2025 the residents, friends and family of North Bass Island worked hard on a fundraiser golf cart ferry trip to their island to support the North Bass Chapel and the Lake Erie Islands Historical Society.
The theme reminded everyone of Island life, especially those castaways from Gilligan’s Island.
There were opportunities to try putt putt golf and defeat some gophers! Throughout the day, guests heard the sound of a small explosion as they attempted to eradicate the gophers from the island. Thankfully, the gophers on this day were all imaginary and did not live on North Bass!
There was also an opportunity to try hatchet throwing, and several people seemed very proficient at hitting the wood target.
There were crafts made of sea glass from the shores of North Bass and many other things. The food was delicious and the entire group of participants had a wonderful time in spite of the very high temperatures.
There were prizes awarded to the best decorated golf carts. One was decorated with palm trees and another with flamingos.
There was an opportunity to renew wedding vows at the North Bass Chapel, which was taken advantage of by several couples, including Tom and Stephanie Thanisu from Put-in-Bay.
Kerry Burris has been the force behind these fundraisers for many years. She coordinated the efforts of family and friends to make the day a success.
Everyone appreciates all her hard work helping her come up with her very creative ideas for the activities. Over the years, the Chapel has been cared for in so many ways. Recently, the floor received major repairs, the roof was repaired in the past, and most recently, air-conditioning was added to help prevent any further effects of heat and humidity on the building.
