If you’re planning a wedding in Put-in-Bay, your cake has to come from Village Bakery and Cafe. Lucky you. Pauline has been the owner of “The Island’s Only Bakery” for 21 years. Village Bakery and Cafe would not have lasted that long if Pauline and her coterie were not cooking up some delicious eats every summer. Even those not having a wedding would be remiss to not pay a visit some morning. Your nose will direct you to the freshly ground coffee and freshly baked pastries such as butter croissants, apple turnovers, scones, and every kind of muffin known to Ohio.

Village Bakery and Cafe Sweets

  • Cakes
  • Muffins
  • Croissants
  • Cinnamon Rolls
  • Turnovers
  • Scones
  • And much more…

Lunch offers include sandwiches, pizza bagels, and even a quarter-pound all-beef hot dog. Do not omit dessert. The Village’s specialty is the Cassada Cake. It’s a sponge cake with a custard/strawberry filling and whipped cream topping. No other Put-in-Bay restaurants would dare challenge Village to a bake-off.

  • Tuna Salad – Starkist brand tuna, celery, sweet relish, onions, mayonnaise, and sour cream
  • Chicken Salad – Roasted chicken, celery, sweet onion, sour cream, mayonnaise, and ranch

Drop by on a Sunday for Pauline’s cinnamon rolls. Get there early to make sure you get yours before everyone else gets yours. Personalized orders are encouraged and not a problem because all of the bakery’s wonderful goods are handmade. Cindy O: “We stopped by Village Bakery & Sandwich Shoppe with 12 hungry people (kids ages 2-13 and adults). We all loved it! Everything they made is from scratch and you can tell! The bakery items are delicious and hard to choose just one. The breakfast sandwiches are also made homemade from scratch, even the croissant sandwiches. The Iced Vanilla Coffee is also amazing and so is the iced tea. The prices are very good too – an inexpensive place to stop for breakfast, lunch, or dessert for sure while at Put-in-Bay. We’ll be going back for sure.”

Tom K: “Amazing pastries! Went looking for do not its, and found eclairs, muffins, etc. Priced at typical island pricing at $2.50 to $4. I must say WELL WORTH THE MONEY!”

John H: “Excellent food! All of the bakery items are delicious, they even have a bunch of lunch items as well.”

Tammi S: “The smell hits you on a Saturday or Sunday morning after being out on the town – and you know it is where you need to be. Delicious breakfast sandwiches and a brownie or two and you’re set for the day. They offer a variety of coffees and much to my delight – chai – that they prepared perfectly blended with skim milk. I know a lot of places that don’t do that right. Anytime of the day – a great place to stop for a snack!!”

Magda Z: “Village Bakery is the best place for coffee, made from scratch muffins and pastries, real salads, delicious sandwiches, and homemade soups. Owners are super nice and always ready to help! During the summer season, you can find gluten-free muffins. Coffee is the best in all villages!”
