Village Bakery and Cafe would not have lasted that long if Pauline and her coterie were not cooking up some delicious eats every summer. Even those not having a wedding would be remiss to not pay a visit next time up on South Bass Island. Grab cinnamon roll or muffin take it across the street to Derivera Park to watch the sunrise. Your nose will direct you to the freshly ground coffee and freshly baked pastries such as butter croissants, apple turnovers, scones, and every kind of muffin known to Ohio.

Lunch offers include the freshest sandwiches, pizza bagels, and even a quarter-pound all-beef hot dog. Do not omit dessert. The Village’s specialty is the Cassada Cake. It’s a sponge cake with a custard/strawberry filling and whipped cream topping. No other Put-in-Bay restaurants would dare challenge Village to a bake-off.

Personalized orders are encouraged and not a problem because all of the bakery’s wonderful goods are handmade. Village Bakery and Cafe is also skilled in the art of catering, so your event will be in good hands. They’ll bring everything your guests need, from deli trays and large party trays to lunch and dinner buffets. Rest assured personal care will be given to your event. Delicious breakfast sandwiches and a brownie or two and you’re set for the day. They offer a variety of coffees and much to my delight – chai – that they prepared perfectly blended with skim milk. I know a lot of places that don’t do that right. Anytime of the day – a great place to stop for a snack!!”

Put-in-Bay Restaurants, Bars, and Attractions

The Village Bakery is located right in the middle of all the action downtown Put-in-Bay. Within walking distance are some of the best restaurants the island has to offer. Tippers is great place for a steak or burger. On Bayview Ave you have the Caribbean themed bar the Keys that serves an amazing Cuban sandwich. If you take a short stroll down the street past Put-in-Bay Harbor you will find the Boardwalk restaurants. At the Boardwalk is Upper Deck, one of best restaurants on the island. There you have to try the Alaskan King Crab and their famous lobster bisque while enjoying the beautiful view of Lake Erie. Also located on the Boardwalk is Rita’s Cantina, the place to go if you are craving a burrito and some nachos. The Boathouse Bar is place to go if you are craving walleye or Lake Erie perch tacos. Another fine dining option is the Goat Soup & Whiskey. This German eatery has biergarten with plenty of outdoor seating. 

When it comes bars it doesn’t get much better than Put-in-Bay bars. If you are looking for the ideal island bar try the tiki themed bar Mojito Bay. This is the perfect place for a margarita or pina colada. If you walk next door find Hooligans Irish pub. Also along Catawba Ave you find some other great island bars. This includes Mossbacks, the Reel Bar, and Fishbowl. If you are looking for live entertainment check out Mr. Ed’s Bar and Grille, Frosty Bar, and The Round House Bar all of which serve great food as well. If dive bars are more your speed than look no further Joe’s Bar. 

Looking for a late night snack or treat? Dairy Isle is the place to go for ice cream or a milkshake and the Candy Bar is the spot for anyone with a sweet tooth. Topsy Turvey and Subway are also open late if you are looking for a hamburger or Italian sub. Need it delivered? Give Cameo Pizza a call and try one of their many appetizers and entrees. They deliver all over Put-in-Bay Ohio from the State Park to Perry’s Monument.

Looking for a breakfast place to get a mimosa? Located right across the street from the Chicken Patio, Pasquale’s Cafe is morning hotspot. Another breakfast alternative is the creperie the Old Forge. Their crepes are a must for every trip to the island!
